Telangana contract assistant professors demand job regularisation

Hyderabad: Contract assistant professors of 12 State universities have once again stepped up their demand against the Telangana Congress government, which is planning to notify teaching vacancies in the universities.

The teachers on Friday demanded that the State government regularise their services and absorb them into regular teaching posts before recruitment notifications are issued. They also demanded implementation of UGC pay scales and job security.

In a statement, the Telangana Universities Teachers Association (Contract) (UTAC) urged the government to facilitate their regularisation as per the Telangana Education Commission’s recommendations.

It said staff who possess all educational qualifications, including NET/SET, PhD and PDF, along with research and administrative experience as per UGC rules and regulations, had been serving students on a par with regular faculty members for more than three decades.

UTAC said that during the 11-day strike, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had assured job security to 1,200 contract assistant professors by exempting an equivalent number of vacancies and filling only the remaining vacancies through notifications. He had also assured salaries on a par with regular assistant professors under the 7th PRC-UGC pay scales, it said, adding that the issue had been set aside due to the interference of some officials.
