Hyderabad: A protest was held today in front of the RTC Bus Bhavan under the aegis of the Telangana State Committee of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD), and a representation was submitted to RTC Executive Director (ED) Venkanna.
Speaking at the protest, former Nalgonda MLA Nandyala Narasimha Reddy stated that the state government is neglecting persons with disabilities, who are among the most marginalized sections of society.
M. Adivayya, State General Secretary of the NPRD, demanded that priority be given to allocating shops to persons with disabilities within RTC-owned shopping complexes. He accused the Congress party of deceiving persons with disabilities by failing to fulfill the promise made during the Assembly elections to provide free travel facilities for them.
The demands included free RTC travel facility for persons with disabilities, implementation of 5% reservation in RTC shopping complexes, filling up backlog posts for persons with disabilities in the RTC. The agitation would continue until the state government fulfilled promises made to persons with disabilities, the protestors said.
