Hyderabad: A 56-year-old motorist was killed on the spot after an overloaded vehicle carrying iron pipes overturned and the entire load fell on him in Balanagar on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Prakash Pawar, a resident of Gautham Nagar.
According to police, the vehicle was carrying a heavy bundle of iron pipes that appeared to be improperly secured and extending beyond the vehicle’s safe load limit.
The accident occurred when the driver reportedly took a U-turn and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn towards the left. At the same time, Prakash was riding his scooter slowly alongside the vehicle. As the vehicle toppled, the bundle of pipes fell directly onto him, crushing him to death.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera nearby. The footage reportedly shows Prakash riding at a relatively slow speed and moving closer to the pipe-laden vehicle while negotiating the U-turn. The vehicle appears to have taken the turn at speed and lost balance just as the scooter came alongside it.
The Balanagar police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the accident, including the overloading and manner in which the pipes were secured.
