Adilabad: A plumber was apprehended on charges of allegedly poaching deer in Maharashtra and selling their meat in Hyderabad, police said. A motorcycle and a mobile phone were seized from him.
Police identified the accused as Shoiab Afzal of the Panjesha area. He was allegedly involved in hunting deer in the Ghatanji forests using a double-barrel gun belonging to his ancestors.
Afzal was booked on August 5 for allegedly killing a deer and had been absconding since then, police said. He had reportedly been staying in Hyderabad and different parts of Maharashtra before being apprehended when he returned to the town.
During interrogation, Afzal allegedly confessed to poaching deer with the intention of selling their meat for profit. He also allegedly admitted to keeping deer antlers at his house and planning to sell them in Hyderabad.
During earlier searches, police had recovered the gun, a torchlight, deer antlers and a skull from his house.
