Kishan Reddy hopes Sabar Dairy of Amul will revive dairy industry in Telangana

Medak: Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy said Sabar Dairy, which markets its products under the Amul brand, would become operational in Telangana within 18 months.

After laying the foundation stone for the Rs 400-crore milk processing plant at Toopran on Sunday, Kishan Reddy said the project would create employment opportunities for local youth, particularly women, besides benefiting farmers.

Welcoming Amul’s decision to set up the dairy processing unit in Telangana, Reddy said existing milk procurement societies had been weakened due to political interference. He expressed hope that the Sabar Dairy plant would help revive the dairy industry in the State.

Since Amul would support farmers through cooperative societies, the Union minister said farmers, particularly women, would become financially stronger. He said farmers in Telangana should establish cooperative societies with Amul’s support, on the lines of those in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said the State government would extend all possible support to Amul.

Labour Minister G Vivekananda, Medak MP M Raghunandan Rao, Collector Prathima Singh and others were present.
