Hyderabad: Upzy House, a dedicated facility for gig workers in Cyberabad was inaugurated at High-Tension Line Road in Kondapur on Friday.
Gig workers can rest and dine with dignity at the Upzy House, which offers ultra-modern facilities, co-founder Anil Rachamalla said. Workers associated with Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, JioMart, Rapido and doorstep services platform Urban Company can obtain membership at the centre.
Members pay a fee of Rs 99 a week or Rs 349 a month for air-conditioned seating, hygienic washrooms, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and mobile charging facilities. Free doctor consultations are available from 9 am to 5 pm and recreational facilities here include table tennis, carrom and chess.
Anil Rachamalla said a six-month on-ground study with 4,163 gig workers in Kondapur and surrounding dark-store clusters found that 68% of gig workers spent more than 10 hours on the roads daily and faced problems due to inadequate basic amenities.
“A dedicated private lounge for women gig workers is also here at the centre, providing clean toilets and safe waiting spaces. The absence of such facilities is the primary deterrent to women entering the gig economy,” he said.
Aditya Vuchi, CEO of Upzy House, Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi and former Chevella MP Dr. G. Ranjith Reddy were also present.
