TGSRTC-Metro common pass draws mixed response from commuters

Hyderabad: The newly introduced TGSRTC-Metro common pass has received a mixed response on social media, with commuters welcoming the convenience of integrated travel but, on the other hand, raising questions over whether the fares were affordable for regular passengers.

The common pass, launched by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday, allows eligible TGSRTC city bus and Hyderabad Metro journeys through a single pass. While the daily pass costs Rs 400, the monthly pass is priced at Rs 8,500.

The monthly fare, in particular, has become a point of discussion among citizens on social media. Some users questioned whether commuters who do not use both services extensively every day would find the Rs 8,500 pass economical.

One user on Reddit questioned whether the monthly pass actually saves money for people who commute regularly, while another said the Rs 8,500 price was difficult to justify compared with the cost of their usual Metro commute.

Another user pointed out that the daily Rs 400 pass could be useful in situations involving multiple journeys, but questioned the need for an expensive monthly pass for people who do not travel extensively every day.

“First time in history, the monthly pass is more expensive than a month’s ticket,” said a ‘X’ user.

However, some users welcomed the integration of Metro and RTC services and described the common pass as a useful initiative, particularly for passengers who rely on buses for first-and last-mile connectivity.

The government has said the common pass is intended to make transfers between RTC buses and Metro trains easier and encourage greater use of public transport. The pass is valid on eligible RTC city services within the ORR, excluding Pushpak buses, as well as Hyderabad Metro services.

The newly launched MeeTicket app has also received attention as passengers can purchase bus tickets and digital passes through their phones. A digital weekly bus pass is available for Rs 600.
