Hyderabad: In a crackdown against unauthorised medical practice, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) on Friday conducted surprise inspections in several clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers in Kalwakurthy and Amangal mandals.
Led by TGMC members Dr. G. Srinivas and Dr. Imran Ali, the inspections detected multiple establishments allegedly practicing modern medicine and prescribing allopathic drugs without the requisite qualifications or statutory registration.
The checks revealed widespread violations, ranging from individuals with basic educational backgrounds such as intermediate qualifications or a B.Com degree, allegedly prescribing heavy antibiotics, steroids, and intravenous fluids, to AYUSH practitioners operating beyond their permitted scope.
Clinics including K. Swamy Homeo Care, Sri Lakshmi Clinic, Mother Theresa First Aid Centre and Sri Ram Clinic were found operating with staff holding non-medical degrees, including Class 10 or intermediate backgrounds, allegedly administering allopathic care.
Establishments, including Soujanya Nursing Home and Mahalakshmi Hospital, registered under MBBS doctors, were found utilising BHMS practitioners to handle pediatric cases and administer allopathic antibiotics and IV fluids, TGMC said.
The GHMC flagged Sai Tirumala Diagnostic Centre for conducting and issuing lab reports without authorization or review by qualified MD specialists in pathology, biochemistry, or microbiology.
Dr. G. Srinivas announced that strict criminal cases and legal proceedings are underway under Section 22 of the Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration (TMPR) Act, alongside Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act. Cases involving cross-practice by AYUSH doctors will additionally be forwarded to the Commissioner of AYUSH for disciplinary measures.
The Medical Council has urged citizens to avoid risking their health by seeking treatment from quacks or unqualified providers. The public can confidentially report illegal clinics or unauthorized practitioners to the TGMC official helpline at 9154382828.
