Mancherial: The Forest department organised a nature walk to mark Wildlife Week at Kawal Tiger Reserve near Jannaram on Friday.

Speaking after flagging off the walk, Jannaram FDO K Rammohanon said the department was striving to conserve wildlife. He said protecting wildlife was everyone’s responsibility and urged people to cooperate with the department in conservation efforts.

The FDO said killing wildlife was a cognisable offence and urged the public not to lay snares near water bodies or put up electrified fences around farms. He said programmes such as essay-writing competitions for school students, rallies and a photo exhibition would be conducted as part of Wildlife Week.

Meanwhile, rallies were held in Chennur, Bellampalli, Kagaznagar, Asifabad, Utnoor, Adilabad, Khanapur and Nirmal divisions. Forest department staff, members of voluntary organisations, students and locals took part in the rallies and raised slogans highlighting the need to protect wildlife.
