Hyderabad: BRS MLC L Ramana accused the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of using his Sircilla meeting for political attacks instead of announcing measures for weavers. He said 54 weavers had died by suicide since January 2024, after the Congress came to power, and called the deaths as a consequence of the government’s policies.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Ramana said the Congress leaders had built up expectations for last 10 days that the Chief Minister would make major announcements, but the meeting offered nothing new. He demanded that the Chief Minister to disclose who benefited from the Rs 1,753 crore allocated for weavers.
He recalled that the previous BRS government had entrusted Sircilla weavers with the production and distribution of Bathukamma sarees, school uniforms and other government orders, besides extending schemes like Nethanna Bima, thrift fund and supplying subsidised raw material.
Hitting back at Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao over his remarks that weavers were unable to handle the large quantity of work provided by the Congress government, Ramana challenged him to provide work and assured to take responsibility for getting the weavers to work.
He also criticised the Chief Minister for making personal remarks against the K Chandrashekhar Rao family, instead of addressing representations from local Congress leaders and issues facing the weaving community. He maintained that such political attacks would not weaken KT Rama Rao and declared that the Congress will continue to face public rejection in Sircilla, Siddipet and Gajwel.
Former MLAs Chinta Prabhakar, K Manik Rao, Methuku Anand and other senior BRS leaders were present.
