Faculty from IIT Hyderabad and experts from AIIMS Bibinagar held discussions on leveraging technology and clinical expertise to address healthcare challenges in India. The meeting focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, digital health, medical devices, disease research and healthcare access.

Sangareddy: Faculty at IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H) and experts from AIIMS Bibinagar came together to explore how technological and clinical expertise could be synthesised to address healthcare challenges in India. The discussions covered medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, biomedical sciences and digital healthcare, focusing on identifying complementary capabilities to develop clinically relevant technologies.
The broader vision emerging from the meeting was to bring together experts in technology and medicine to develop robust and scalable solutions for India’s healthcare challenges. IIT-H has expertise in artificial intelligence, drug discovery, molecular biology, advanced materials, biomedical engineering, medical devices, imaging, sensors, nanotechnology and digital technologies. AIIMS Bibinagar would bring expertise in infectious diseases, oncology, orthodontics, orthopaedics and healthcare delivery.
Potential areas of collaboration that were discussed included AI-enabled healthcare, digital health and telemedicine, medical devices and advanced implants, disease research, and technologies for improving healthcare access. Representatives from both institutions also discussed plans to work with Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University, Mulugu, on initiatives related to healthcare access for rural and tribal communities.
The discussions are being pursued under the leadership of the Director of IIT-H Prof BS Murty, and the Executive Director, AIIMS Bibinagar, Prof Amita Aggarwal. The meeting was facilitated by Prof G Narahari Sastry, Dean of Sponsored Research and Consultancy at IITH, and Prof Rahul Narang, Dean of Research at AIIMS Bibinagar. This meeting is part of the larger ongoing efforts by Prof Murty to engage with clinicians and healthcare professionals and explore how state-of-the-art technology being developed by IIT Hyderabad can be applied to healthcare.
Prof Narahari Sastry said the collaboration would need to expand from individual partnerships to large programmes that bring IIT-H and AIIMS Bibinagar together as institutions.
