BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, working president KT Rama Rao and BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao paid tributes to Konda Laxman Bapuji on his birth anniversary, recalling his role in the Telangana movement and his commitment to marginalised communities.

Hyderabad: BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday paid rich tributes to freedom fighter and Telangana activist Konda Laxman Bapuji on his birth anniversary, recalling his uncompromising struggle for the principles he believed in. He called Bapuji as a statesman of great stature and an idealist whose life of steadfast struggle continued to inspire the younger generation.
In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao recalled Bapuji’s support when he launched the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) and began the second phase of the Telangana movement. He said the Telangana activist offered his Jal Drushyam residence as a venue for the formation of the political party representing Telangana’s aspirations.
He said the previous BRS government took several measures to honour Bapuji’s legacy, including officially observing his birth anniversary, installing his statue on Tank Bund and naming the State horticulture university after him. He said implementing Bapuji’s ideals and working for the advancement of backward communities would be the true tribute to him.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao also paid tributes to the freedom fighter and recalled Bapuji’s decision to give up his Ministerial post for the cause of Telangana statehood and his contribution to the separate-state movement. He said Bapuji provided space at his residence for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi during the final phase of Telangana movement.
He remembered the initiatives taken by the K Chandrashekhar Rao government to honour Bapuji, including naming the horticulture university after him and installing his statue on Tank Bund.
BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao who paid tributes to Bapuji, recalled the latter’s struggle from the freedom movement to the Telangana statehood movement and his lifelong fight for the rights of marginalised sections. He said carrying forward Bapuji’s ideals and continuing the fight for people’s rights and Telangana self-respect would be the true tribute to him.
