Hyderabad: Traffic restrictions will continue on Saturday on major procession routes, including Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary, owing to the movement of Ganesh idol immersion processions.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar appealed to motorists to avoid these routes unless there was an emergency and to postpone their journeys or use alternative routes. He also advised people against unnecessarily venturing onto congested roads.
The Ganesh idol immersion procession was peaceful in the city without any major untoward incident, said Sajjanar on Saturday.
The Commissioner said the procession had continued in a peaceful and grand manner since Friday, with lakhs of devotees turning up at Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road and other places for immersion of idols and to participate in the festival.
The heavy movement of devotees and vehicles, particularly as families arrived in large numbers, slowed traffic and caused some delay in the immersion process. Police and traffic personnel worked continuously to facilitate the swift immersion of the remaining idols, he said.
The Commissioner thanked the people for extending full cooperation to the police and urged citizens to continue following traffic advisories issued by the traffic police.
