Hyderabad’s famous Balapur Ganesh laddu prasadam fetched Rs 39 lakh at auction on Friday, Rs 4 lakh more than last year. Urban Group head Sama Praneeth Reddy won the bidding after intense competition from locals and an NRI.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s famous Balapur Ganesh laddu Prasadam went under hammer for a staggering Rs.39 lakh, which is Rs.4 lakh more than last year.
After intense bids from several individuals, including from Balapur locals and NRI, Urban Group Head Sama Praneeth Reddy emerged victorious in the auction conducted here on Friday.
The Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi representatives who commenced the auction Rs.1,116 saw bids crossing the last year’s Rs.35 lakh in no time and Praneeth Reddy came out victorious at the end.
This time, an individual from London has also taken part in the auction. The history of the laddu auction dates back to 1994, when it was first successfully bid for Rs 450 by a local farmer Kolan Mohan Reddy, and last year, it fetched a staggering Rs 35 lakh.
Balapur locals believe that winning the laddu will bring them health, wealth and prosperity. Earlier, a technical glitch was encountered while shifting the Balapur Ganesh idol onto the vehicle using a crane.
This delayed the procession in the local area and laddu auction, A large number of people thronged to bid adieu to Balapur Ganesh.
