ABVP has condemned the unauthorised screening of a documentary on jailed activist Umar Khalid at NALSAR University of Law and demanded a transparent inquiry, action against those responsible, and clear guidelines for future events on campus.

Hyderabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday condemned the ‘unauthorised’ screening of the documentary Prisoner No. 626710 on jailed activist Umar Khalid on the NALSAR University of Law campus here on September 23. It demanded a transparent enquiry into the circumstances that enabled the screening besides action on those responsible.
In a statement, the ABVP Greater Hyderabad said the film centres on an individual linked to controversies surrounding the JNU protests, the CAA–NRC protests, and the Delhi riots.
ABVP Greater Hyderabad secretary G Pruthvi Teja said, “Using educational premises for such content raises concerns about turning campuses into platforms for political propaganda rather than spaces for learning, academic discussion, and constructive debate”.
Citing media reports, the ABVP said the NALSAR administration did not authorise the event and that no official permission was granted by the university authorities.
Stating that ABVP submitted a representation to the NALSAR Vice-Chancellor, seeking an enquiry into the matter and appropriate action, Teja said so far, they did not receive any response from the Vice Chancellor.
Apart from transparent enquiry, the ABVP demanded action, in accordance with university rules, against those responsible for ‘unauthorised’ screening.
The students’ organisation wanted the university to come up with clear guidelines to ensure that future events comply with university norms, legal requirements, and the principles of academic responsibility.
