Attack on ex-MLA Vinay Bhaskar draws sharp reaction from women, BRS leaders

BRS leaders condemned an alleged police assault on former MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar at MGM Hospital in Warangal and demanded action against the personnel involved. They also criticised the government over the alleged targeting of Opposition leaders

Hanamkonda: An alleged police assault on former MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar at MGM Hospital in Warangal on Tuesday drew a sharp reaction from women present at the scene, while BRS leaders demanded action against the police personnel allegedly responsible.

In videos and photographs of the incident shared on social media, several women were seen questioning the police over stopping the former MLA from visiting the hospital and speaking to patients who were facing difficulties due to a lack of basic amenities at the facility.

BRS leaders said the incident reflected the support enjoyed by the party and its leaders among the public and alleged that it also showed public dissatisfaction with the Revanth Reddy government over its handling of public issues.

Meanwhile, former MP Boinapally Vinod Kumar, speaking to the media, condemned the alleged police assault on Vinay Bhaskar. He demanded that the government explain why Bhaskar was shifted to a private hospital instead of a government hospital.

He demanded that higher officials immediately register cases against the police personnel who allegedly attacked Vinay Bhaskar, warning that a private complaint would be filed if the police failed to do so. It was not wrong to question the government about public issues in a democracy, he said.

In separate statements in Khammam, Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra and former Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao strongly condemned the alleged police excesses against BRS leaders.

Ravichandra asserted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who holds the Home portfolio, bears full responsibility for the alleged attack on Vinay Bhaskar. Cases should be registered against the police personnel and they should be suspended from service, he said.

Kantha Rao alleged that the government was orchestrating attacks on the Opposition for raising questions about its failures. The attacks taking place in the State and the filing of false cases against BRS leaders signalled, he claimed, the beginning of the government’s downfall.
