The GHSPCA and Madhuranagar police rescued an Indian rock python and a broiler chicken during a Ganesh immersion procession in Hyderabad. The python, allegedly used in street performances, is undergoing treatment and will be released after recovery and official permission.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GHSPCA) in collaboration with Madhuranagar police, rescued an Indian Rock Python and a broiler chicken during a Ganesh immersion procession.
After being alerted, the animal volunteers from GHSPCA and the police intercepted a visiting dance troupe from Visakhapatnam. The snake handler had previously evaded capture in Kondapur on September 19, GHSPCA said.
The protected python was openly used in street performances, while the chicken faced severe mistreatment, a press release from GHSPCA said.
Madhuranagar SHO Prabhakar and his team assisted along with GHSPCA participated in a swift intervention. The rescued python, suffering from an oral cavity and tooth infection, is currently receiving treatment under Veterinary Doctor Dr Vishva Chaitanya.
The python will be released into its natural habitat following full recovery and wildlife authorities’ permission, GHSPCA said.
The GHSPCA commended the local police for their prompt support and urged citizens to boycott performances exploiting wildlife, requesting immediate reports of any such animal cruelty to authorities.
According to GHSPCA, the Indian Rock Python is a protected wild animal under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and has urged concerned authorities to take appropriate action in accordance with applicable wildlife-protection laws.
