Rajanna Sircilla: Barbers working at the second Kalyanakatta boycotted their duties and staged a protest, demanding that officials resolve their long-pending issues at the temple town of Vemulawada on Saturday.
The agitating barbers regretted that they had not been paid salaries for the past few years. They said they had been depending on monetary gifts voluntarily offered by devotees. They also lamented that some of them had been fined Rs. 15,000 on charges of forcing a devotee from Warangal to pay a fee for tonsuring.
The barbers clarified that they had never forcibly collected money from devotees. They wanted temple officials either to offer them a commission on the lines of their counterparts working at the first Kalyanakatta or to pay them salaries for their services.
They withdrew their protest after temple Assistant Executive Officer Mahesh and supervisor Srinivas Sharma assured them that their concerns would be addressed within two days.
