Hyderabad: Four-storey building tilts in Gopanpally, residents evacuated

Hyderabad: Panic gripped NTR Nagar in Gopanpally, Hyderabad on Friday afternoon after a multi-storey residential building developed a sudden and noticeable tilt, prompting an immediate emergency response and evacuation efforts.

The incident unfolded at around 1 pm on Friday in the Serilingampally Zone, where officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and local engineering and town-planning departments rushed to the site to manage the crisis.

The latest structural scare at Gopanpally comes closely on the heels of a fatal tragedy on August 22, when an illegal seven-storey apartment collapsed in nearby Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, that resulted in two deaths.

The four-storey building at NTR Nagar was constructed on a compact plot measuring just 50 square yards, and CMC officials successfully evacuated all occupants and residents from the tilting structure and surrounding areas to prevent any casualties.

Local residents expressed severe anxiety, noting that the compromised building is in a precarious state and could collapse at any moment.

Engineering teams are currently inspecting the site, while further details regarding the structural failure and foundation integrity are awaited.
Similar recurring incidents have raised concerns among the general public regarding unauthorized constructions, compromised building standards, and weak foundations across rapidly developing localities in the city.
As investigations continue, the CMC officials have cordoned off the immediate vicinity around the tilting structure to ensure public safety.
