Mumbai: The BCCI’s member units on Friday authorised the board’s office-bearers to decide whether chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar should be given an extension or replaced, during the Board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Agarkar has been in focus as his contract is set to end on October 4, with the BCCI potentially looking to appoint his replacement.
“The office bearers have been authorised to take decisions on matters concerning the selection committees,” a senior BCCI official said at the end of the meeting.
The 95th AGM of the BCCI was attended by representatives of its affiliated state member boards, including former India captain Sourav Ganguly of the Cricket Association of Bengal and former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Along with deciding on the future of the chairman of the senior selection committee, the BCCI is also looking to fill all five positions on the junior selection committee.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association requested the Indian cricket board to consider the city while allotting prominent matches, state body secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar said.
It has been nearly two years since the iconic Wankhede Stadium hosted a Test match. The last Test at the venue was in late 2024 against New Zealand. Mumbai is also set to host fixtures, including the inaugural Women’s Champions League early next year and some matches of the Women’s Premier League.
Additionally, Jharkhand State Cricket Association secretary and former India cricketer Saurabh Tiwary said he had no knowledge of reports that the India-Australia Test was being moved away from Ranchi.
“This is news to me. If someone has to write to the BCCI (on this), that has to be me. I haven’t written anything. Nothing at all has been discussed at the AGM,” Tiwary told reporters here.
