Jagga Reddy’s 50-ft road widening proposal draws criticism in Sangareddy

TPCC Working President T Jagga Reddy’s call to restrict Sangareddy bypass widening to 50 feet has drawn criticism from citizens and social media users. The project, sanctioned at Rs 12 crore, proposes widening the 2.265-km road to 80 feet

Sangareddy: TPCC Working President T Jagga Reddy’s attempt to blame Opposition MLA Chintha Prabhakar over the widening of the Sangareddy bypass road drew criticism from people on social media and in Sangareddy town.

Jagga Reddy, who walked along the Sangareddy bypass road on Tuesday, said officials should restrict the widening of the road to 50 feet instead of the proposed 80 feet. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had already sanctioned Rs 12 crore for the project, and the road works were under way.

However, Jagga Reddy suddenly changed his stand and insisted that officials restrict the widening to 50 feet to avoid the loss of properties belonging to citizens. Even though the government had a 66-foot-wide kutcha road at the location, on which a 22.50-foot-wide road was laid a couple of decades ago, Jagga Reddy’s insistence attracted criticism.

The 2.265-km road, which connects Sangareddy main road at IB Guest House to NH-65 at Basaveshwara Statue, was proposed to be widened to decongest the increasing traffic on the stretch.

Jagga Reddy’s social media posts on his new proposal also drew criticism. Some social media users described him as a “visionless leader”. After Jagga Reddy blamed MLA Chintha Prabhakar, accusing him of insisting on widening the road to 80 feet, social media users criticised the Congress leader.

Some users also accused Jagga Reddy of trying to influence voters and said he would not win the election from Sangareddy if he continued to make such decisions.

Even before BRS leaders could respond to Jagga Reddy’s allegations, social media users criticised the Congress leader’s stand. Citizens demanded that the government continue widening the road to 80 feet, citing the needs of a rapidly urbanising Sangareddy.
