A 40-year-old man was allegedly murdered by a group of assailants following a dispute over a Ganesh idol pandal in Tukaramgate. Police said the victim had allegedly helped a woman marry her lover four years ago, angering her family.

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old man was brutally murdered by a group of assailants in Tukaramgate under the Lalaguda police station limits on Sunday night.

According to police, the victim identified as Karthik had allegedly helped a woman in his neighbourhood marry her lover four years ago, leading to strong objection from her family. Also, resulting in the family bearing a grudge against him.


On Sunday, an argument broke out between the two groups over the installation of a Ganesh idol pandal.

The woman’s brothers and relatives allegedly attacked Karthik with knives and slit his throat. He was rushed to Gandhi Hospital with severe bleeding but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Locals alleged that police had arrived earlier after being alerted about the dispute but left after warning both groups. They accused the police of negligence and claimed the killing could have been prevented.

The Lalaguda Police have registered a case and are investigating.
