Hyderabad’s Gudimalkapur flower market is witnessing heightened activity ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, with traders stocking large quantities of flowers and garlands. Supplies are arriving from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while hundreds of stalls prepare to meet the festival demand.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s iconic Gudimalkapur flower market has transformed into a sea of colours as traders and artisans gear up for the grand Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Traders report heightened activity across the market, with flower stocks being arranged in bulk and prepared ahead of the celebrations.
Department of Agricultural Marketing officials are monitoring flower arrivals from different states. B Revanth, Grade-3 secretary of Gudimalkapur Agricultural Market Committee, said tonnes of fresh flowers were arriving daily, with the market expecting a major surge in activity during the festival.
The Gudimalkapur flower market, widely recognised as South India’s largest wholesale floral hub, is drawing massive shipments of decorative flowers from across the region, according to officials. The bustling market is receiving vibrant supplies from key floral belts in Karnataka (including Bengaluru, Chikbalapur, and Mysore), Andhra Pradesh (including Kadapa, Vijayawada, and Mylavaram), as well as major cultivation zones within Telangana, said the official.
A marketing department official said the market received 125 to 130 tonnes of flowers annually from these areas, with supplies doubling during festive seasons.
Around 2,000 traders participate in daily transactions between 3 am and 1 pm, selling garlands and loose flowers. More than 270 stalls are prepared to meet demand for marigolds, jasmine, chrysanthemums and lilies sourced from neighbouring districts and States.
Trader V Shankar said thousands of Ganesh pandals across Hyderabad were sourcing intricate floral sheets and heavy garlands directly from Gudimalkapur to create elaborate settings for Lord Ganesha.
