Medak: In a shocking incident, a young man who attempted suicide by setting himself on fire after dousing himself with petrol barged into the Ramayampet police station on Monday evening.
Accusing the Ramayampet police of filing a false case against him in connection with a love matter, the youth, Durga Prasad (28), attempted suicide on the police station premises.
The incident created a sensation as police ran helter-skelter to save their lives after seeing the man engulfed in flames. When they realised what had happened and doused the fire, Durga Prasad had already sustained burns over 90 per cent of his body.
He was rushed to the government hospital in Ramayampet. As his condition turned critical, he was shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment. However, his condition is said to remain critical.
The police registered a case and an investigation was under way.
