Gholamhossein Darzi, the Islamic Republic’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, made the appeal in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the Security Council on Wednesday following a new wave of such American strikes targeting southern Iranian cities, which together claimed the lives of at least 18 people and wounded 108 others.
Describing the circumstances surrounding the attack targeting the wedding reception, the envoy noted that a residential home in Kouhestak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, was struck while the celebration was taking place there.
“The Islamic Republic strongly condemns this horrific and appalling crime,” he wrote, adding that “the deliberate targeting and killing of civilians, including children, constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime.”
Darzi said the Kouhestak incident was part of a broader pattern of US and Israeli attacks against civilian sites across Iran.
The letter noted that since February 28, US attacks had repeatedly targeted civilians and critical infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, airports, residential areas, bridges, roads, and railway facilities.
It also cited the February 28 attack on a primary school in the city of Minab, Hormozgan Province. According to the letter, more than 168 students, predominantly girls aged seven to 12, as well as teachers and school staff, were martyred, while another 110 people sustained injuries.
