Hyderabad: Auto driver sentenced to 20 years in POCSO case

A 26-year-old auto driver was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by an LB Nagar court in a POCSO case. Syed Mukaram was convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on the pretext of marriage.

Hyderabad: Auto driver sentenced to 20 years in POCSO case

HYDERABAD: The Fast Track Special Court for Rape and POCSO Act cases at LB Nagar on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old auto driver to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a POCSO case registered by Pahadishareef police in 2023.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and directed payment of Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the victim. The convict, Syed Mukaram, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl repeatedly on the pretext of marriage.


According to police, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint on December 18, 2023, stating that her daughter had gone missing two days earlier. During the investigation, police traced the girl, who disclosed that she had become acquainted with Mukaram, an auto driver, and that he had taken her to his residence, where he sexually assaulted her.

The police filed a case under Sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act. After trial, the court convicted and sentenced the man to imprisonment.
