Former Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Former Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Dehradun in recognition of his distinguished contribution to policing and public service. The 1990-batch IPS officer served in several key State, central and international assignments during his career

Hyderabad: Former IPS officer Anjani Kumar, who served as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana and held several key policing positions during his distinguished career, was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh at a function in Dehradun.

Anjani Kumar was among three senior civil and police service officers honoured with the award. Sameer Sinha, an IFS officer from Uttarakhand, and Meenakshi Negi, an IFS officer from Karnataka, were the other recipients.

A 1990-batch IPS officer, Anjani Kumar began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon in the erstwhile Warangal district. He went on to serve in several important assignments, including as Superintendent of Police of Guntur and Prakasam districts. He later held senior positions as DIG of the Nizamabad and Guntur ranges, DIG of the Crime Investigation Cell and IGP of Greyhounds. He also served in the CISF on central deputation.

One of the notable phases of his career was an international assignment with the United Nations International Police Task Force in Bosnia during 1998-99. His service there earned him the United Nations Peace Medal twice. He was also awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Antrik Suraksha Medal for his contribution to internal security and anti-extremism operations.

Anjani Kumar served as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, from March 2018 to December 2021, where he was credited with strengthening policing, public safety and community-oriented policing initiatives in the city. He subsequently headed the Anti-Corruption Bureau and later served as the DGP of Telangana.

Known for his experience in policing, internal security, anti-extremism operations and administration, Anjani Kumar’s career spanned more than three decades across State, central and international assignments. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises his long and distinguished contribution to public service and policing.
