Mancherial: A modern centralised community kitchen, managed by the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation, was formally inaugurated by MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao on the premises of the Old Medical College here on Monday.
The facility, sponsored by SCCL under its CSR initiative at a cost of Rs 8 crore, will provide breakfast to around 50,000 students from government schools and colleges in Mancherial, Peddapalli and Jagtial districts.
Speaking on the occasion, Premsagar Rao said it was laudable that both the foundation and SCCL had come forward to provide thousands of poor students with quality food. He said human resources were the wealth of the State and that the government was committed to shaping students into diamonds by providing better amenities.
The legislator thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for establishing the kitchen in the district.
Collector Kumar Deepak, who accompanied Premsagar Rao, said the facility, equipped with modern automated machines, would be able to address the nutritional needs of 42,450 students in schools and 6,650 junior college students across the three districts.
Representatives of the foundation said that 5,600 idlis, 3,000 dosas and 3,600 puris would be prepared every hour at the kitchen between 4 am and 7 am. The breakfast would then be delivered to the schools and colleges in special vehicles before 8 am.
The food would remain hot for up to four hours.
