Nirmal: Two officials from the Commercial Tax Department were arrested by sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a trader here on Monday.

ACB officials said that District Commercial Tax Officer Koppela Godavari and senior assistant Manthri Sai Krishna were taken into custody while collecting the bribe from the trader at their office. A case has been registered against the officials. The officials were produced before a special court for ACB cases in Karimnagar.

Godavari and Sai Krishna reportedly harassed the trader, demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to slash the commercial tax on certain goods. They agreed to accept the bribe after being repeatedly requested by the trader. The trader approached ACB officials, who in turn laid a trap and arrested the officials red-handed while receiving the bribe.
