Hyderabad: The police have registered a case against organizers of the pre-release event of actor Yash-starrer “Toxic” and management of Malla Reddy University following a stampede-like situation and the collapse of a scaffolding-mounted sound box at the campus in Maisammaguda on Saturday night.
A large number of students and fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of Yash, leading to severe overcrowding at the venue. According to reports, some fans climbed onto heavy sound boxes and light poles to get a better view of the actor. The additional load reportedly contributed to the collapse of a structure, triggering panic and a stampede-like situation.
Several students sustained injuries in the incident, while a female student reportedly fainted amid the chaos. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police alleged gross negligence on the part of the event organizers and college management in ensuring adequate crowd management and safety arrangements. A case was registered and further investigation is under way.
