Hyderabad: Over 200 residents of various colonies in Manikonda, within Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits, held a walkathon on Saturday, demanding the widening of the existing 40-ft road between Manikonda X Road (Marrichettu) and U Colony up to 100 or 150 ft.
The residents held placards and started the walkathon from Manikonda ‘Marri Chettu’ to Aditya Athena, U Colony, and raised slogans. They demanded that CMC officials widen the road on a war footing for public safety, smoother traffic movement and unobstructed access to emergency services.
The Manikonda Praja Aikya Vedika organised the protest and urged the civic body to take necessary steps. A few residents said that, as per the master plan, the existing road width is 100 ft, but it was laid as only 40 ft. They demanded that the Congress government widen the road, which was pending for the past five years, failing which they threatened to intensify their protests.
