Hyderabad: Commuters continue to face traffic congestion near Raidurg Metro amid demands for the stretch to be widened. Regular delays are reported in the area, affecting daily travel for motorists and Metro users during peak hours.
Road users raised concerns over whether the opposite stretch towards Raidurg Metro Station would be widened, saying the stretch had become too narrow for travel. They complained of being stranded for hours in traffic jams on this stretch, leading to inordinate delays in reaching their working stations.
Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) chief engineer D Ravi told ‘Telangana Today’ that efforts were under way to widen the road in coordination with Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials. He said utilities along the stretch would need to be shifted before the widening could be taken up.
TGIIC spent Rs 9 crore on road widening works on three stretches from the IOC petrol outlet to Trident Hotel, Medicover to Kohinoor, and Kohinoor to Sattva, with the works nearing completion.
The works on the stretch commenced in February and were supposed to be completed by June, but were delayed due to boulders being removed and the shifting of utilities, the sources said. Heavy traffic along the stretch was cited as another major hurdle in completing the works.
Commuters and employees in the corridor said widening the other side of the stretch would bring relief to hundreds of IT professionals working in Raidurg, Gachibowli and adjoining areas. They said the widening would ease movement and reduce pressure on the existing carriageway used daily by traffic heading to and from offices in Raidurg, Gachibowli and nearby localities.
