Mahabubnagar: A leopard cub has been found dead under suspicious circumstances on the Srisailam road in Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) limits late on Sunday.
The cub is expected to be aged around six to eight months. It was found dead on the roadside near Gundam checkpost on the Srisailam road from where the safari vehicles enter the tiger reserve.
Forest officials claimed that no external injuries were detected on the carcass. A postmortem is to be conducted later in the day and the exact cause of death will be known by the officials.
The location where the cub was found dead is known for frequent movement of wild animals. Officials suspect that any vehicle could have hit the cub while it was crossing the road.
Of late, the vehicular traffic towards Srisailam is increasing heavily on the weekends. Despite traffic restrictions are imposed after late hours, officials are expressing concern that heavy traffic movement was posing a threat to wild animals in ATR.
