Khammam: BRS cadres staged protests across Khammam and Kothagudem districts against an alleged attempt by the Congress government to cancel the Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak scheme.
Responding to the call given by the party working president KT Rama Rao, the Khammam BRS party workers staged a protest in front of the RDO office on Monday. The party leaders Bachu Vijay Kumar, Pagadala Nagaraju, K Nagabhushanam, MA Qamar and others took part in the protest.
Speaking to the media, the leaders demanded that the Congress government take immediate measures to implement the Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak scheme, following the High Court’s stay order regarding its implementation.
They said that after the formation of Telangana State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, recognising the financial hardships faced by SC, ST, BC and minority families in conducting the weddings of marriage-age girls, introduced the Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak scheme.
Financial assistance of Rs 1,00,116 was provided for the weddings of poor girls. The schemes have helped reduce child marriages and provided financial security to families. But the Revanth Reddy government was undermining such a beneficial scheme, Nagaraju said.
In Kothagudem, former municipal chairperson Kapu Seethalakshmi and others staged a protest. She condemned the government’s inaction in getting the stay order against the implementation of the schemes vacated. Similar protests have been staged at all mandal headquarters across the erstwhile Khammam.
