Indian Navy sailor, family found dead in Navy Nagar home; probe underway

Mumbai: A 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, his wife, son and infant daughter were found dead at their residence in the Navy Nagar area of south Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

According to the Cuffe Parade police, the sailor, Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra, was found hanging, while the bodies of his wife Oma (28), three-year-old son Yash, and two-month-old daughter were found on a bed.


Prima facie, it appears that Mehra committed suicide, while the wife and children died due to poisoning, an official said, adding that the bodies were taken to JJ Hospital.

An accidental death report has been registered. The police have not recovered any suicide note from the scene, he said.

The Indian Navy, in a statement, said that the sailor, along with his wife and two children, was found dead at their residence.

A police investigation is in progress, and the Navy is extending all possible assistance, it said.
