Chhatarpur: Two teenage boys were killed after an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle while they were returning home after attending an Independence Day programme in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district on Saturday, police said.

The accident occurred in Gudakala village under Lavkush Nagar police station limits, they said. The deceased were identified as Lakshya Bharti (15) and his 16-year-old friend Anil Ahirwar, the former’s father Ramesh Bharti said.

A speeding vehicle hit the boys while they were returning home from school, and fled the spot, he said. Both the students were initially taken to the Lavkush Nagar health centre. They were later referred to the Chhatarpur district hospital due to their critical condition.

An MUV (multi-utility vehicle) had hit the motorcycle, in which one of the students died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Chhatarpur district hospital, Lavkush Nagar Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Naveen Dubey told PTI. Police have launched a search for the vehicle and its driver, he added.
