Adilabad: Mild tension prevailed for a while during the distribution of smart ration cards after BJP activists objected to the lack of photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on flex posters displayed at the programme here on Saturday.

BJP activists raised slogans criticising the government for ignoring the Union government. They stalled the distribution of the ration cards for a brief period. The activists and policemen present at the programme jostled with each other, leading to tension.

Meanwhile, activists of the Congress also staged a counter-protest. However, the BJP activists were arrested and shifted to a nearby police station, bringing the situation under control. They were released by evening. They said that the Congress government was not giving due credit to the Centre for the implementation of various welfare schemes.
