HYDERABAD: A tenth-standard student was allegedly assaulted by a group of 12 fellow students at a corporate school in Dammaiguda, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, on Sunday night.

The victim, Abhishek, a native of Kamareddy, was allegedly attacked inside the hostel.

According to his parents, the students beat him with sticks and plates and allegedly stamped on his face with their shoes.

The parents said the school management informed them over the phone that their son had fallen from a staircase and sustained injuries. They immediately rushed to the school and brought him home. As his condition was serious, he was later shifted to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The student subsequently told his parents that senior students had attacked him in the name of ragging. Based on his statement, the parents approached the police and lodged a complaint seeking strict action against those responsible.

The parents also alleged that the school management tried to suppress the incident by giving them a different account of how their son sustained the injuries.

They demanded stringent action against the students involved in the assault and the school management for allegedly concealing the facts.

Police have taken up an investigation into the allegations, including the ragging angle and the role of the school management.
