Hyderabad: The Jagtial BJP unit suspended party leader Konda Laxman, who is accused of misusing Custom Milled Rice (CMR). Laxman is also known to be a close aide of Nizamabad BJP MP D Aravind.
Following a complaint by the Civil Supplies department, police registered criminal cases against Laxman, who owns a rice mill. Cases were also registered against a few others in connection with the alleged misuse of CMR. Unaccounted paddy worth Rs 87 crore was detected during raids conducted by the Vigilance and Enforcement department.
Soon after the police cases were registered, Laxman remained absconding for a few days. However, after securing bail, he turned up at the Bonalu festival celebrations in Jagtial town, according to reports.
With the case taking a political turn, Jagtial BJP president R Yadagiri Babu issued orders on Monday suspending Laxman from the party. He said the action was taken following the instructions of BJP State president N Ramchander Rao.
Yadagiri Babu said the BJP had no connection with Laxman’s business establishments or operations. He warned that leaders who failed to maintain discipline and brought disrepute to the party would face stern action.
