Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao served a legal notice to TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud over his alleged remarks accusing him of performing black magic and occult rituals at temples to prevent timely rainfall in Telangana. He demanded that Mahesh Kumar Goud immediately withdraw the remarks and issue an unconditional public apology, failing which civil and criminal proceedings would be initiated in court.

The notice, issued through Harish Rao’s advocate, termed the allegations false, baseless and defamatory. In the notice, Harish Rao alleged that the remarks were made with political motives to damage his personal and political reputation.

The BRS leader also objected to the alleged attempt to portray his spiritual and religious visits to temples as black magic rituals for political purposes, calling such conduct a degradation of the level of democratic discourse. “Criticism and counter-criticism are part of political life, but making false allegations to assassinate a leader’s character is a legal offence and unacceptable,” he asserted.

The notice also referred to similar legal notices already issued to Congress leaders Addanki Dayakar and Sama Ram Mohan Reddy over alleged baseless remarks against Harish Rao.
