Sangareddy: The suspected release of industrial effluents into Rudraram lake led to the death of fish, leaving fishermen in distress on Monday.
More than 150 fishermen earn their livelihood by fishing in the lake. With a large number of fish found dead, their livelihood has been severely affected. The fishermen claimed they had suffered losses of nearly Rs 20 lakh due to the fish deaths.
It is suspected that pharmaceutical companies in the area discharged a large quantity of effluents into the lake under the cover of incessant rain. The fishermen demanded a probe by the Pollution Control Board into the incident and stern action against the pharma companies
