The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has honored the memory of Ismail Haniyeh, the late political chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, who was martyred by the Israeli regime in Tehran two years ago, asserting that Israeli and US attempts to disarm Hamas are futile.
The IRGC said in a Sunday statement that Iran will not back out from its pledges to avenge the assassination of Haniyeh, saying the response to the crime, which took place on July 31, 2024, while the Palestinian leader was in Tehran to attend a presidential inauguration ceremony, would be “harsh and devastating.”
“The assassination of martyr Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran…was a monumental crime and a gross violation of the principles and norms of international law, national sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said the statement.
The IRGC said that two years after Haniyeh’s martyrdom, the Israeli regime has revealed its true nature by continuing the genocidal war in Gaza and launching aggressions on two occasions against Iran and allied resistance forces in the region, with help from the United States and its “vile and demonic president.”
It said a recent attempt by the US and its allies to disarm Hamas as part of a so-called peace process that would include reconstruction for the territory would definitely fail.
“The conspiracy to disarm Hamas will lead nowhere and has already failed from the outset, because the path of martyr Haniyeh is the path of honor, dignity, and freedom,” said the IRGC.
“This path will continue until the full realization of Palestine’s aspirations and the annihilation of the usurpers of the Holy Quds,” it added.
