Kothagudem: The River Godavari has receded and the flood flow dropped below the first warning level at Bhadrachalam in the district on Sunday.

The water level, which was at 43 feet at 5 pm, dropped to 42.90 feet at 6 pm, with a discharge of 9.32 lakh cusecs. As a result, officials withdrew the first warning, much to the relief of residents living on the banks of the river.

District Collector Ankit advised villagers who were evacuated from the flood-affected villages to remain at relief centres until the flood situation returned to normal. The panchayat staff started sanitation work in the villages inundated by floodwaters by removing silt and garbage that had accumulated in the villages.
