Five Lebanese soldiers have been wounded after an Israeli drone struck a civilian vehicle being escorted by a Lebanese Army patrol in a southern border town, according to the Lebanese military and local media.
The Lebanese Army said on Sunday that the soldiers sustained minor injuries while accompanying civilians in an army vehicle in the border town of Kafra in the Bint Jbeil district.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that a small Israeli drone dropped a grenade on the escorted vehicle, though the army did not provide further details about the attack.
Elsewhere, Israeli forces carried out fresh attacks across southern Lebanon, with Lebanese media reporting explosions in Kounine, Haddatha and near Shaqif Fortress (Beaufort Castle), where Israeli forces continued demolishing infrastructure.
Israeli drones were also reported flying over Beirut and its southern suburbs.
The latest attacks came despite a US-mediated framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel on June 26. The agreement calls for the phased withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from southern Lebanon alongside the deployment of the Lebanese Army.
Since the agreement was signed, however, Israel has continued military offensives across southern Lebanon, carrying out airstrikes, demolitions and the burning of homes in border towns.
In a recent statement, the Lebanese Army said the systematic destruction of homes, bulldozing operations, bombardment and gunfire across several areas have obstructed its full deployment under the agreement and prevented residents from returning to their villages.
Israel’s military is deliberately destroying residential areas and civilian infrastructure in southern Lebanon in an effort to render parts of the region uninhabitable.
According to Lebanese health authorities, the regime’s attacks on the country have killed at least 4,321 people and wounded 12,207 others since early March.
