Search continues for man who fell into stormwater drain in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: More than 18 hours have passed since a 70-year-old man went missing after falling into a stormwater drain on Tuesday night, even as search operations continued by the DRF teams of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa).

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Hydraa said search efforts were continuing for the man, who went missing after accidentally falling into a stormwater drain while crossing the road near the railway underpass at Vaishalinagar, Madeenaguda, Hafeezpet.

Officials said the stormwater drain flows into Earla Lake in Madeenaguda and later joins Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu. With development work under way at Earla Lake, the stormwater drain has been directly diverted towards Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu, and the search was conducted along that route. From 10 pm on Tuesday until Wednesday evening, Hydraa DRF and MRT teams searched nearly 3 km, including pipelines and box drains, but found no trace of the man.
