Hyderabad: A 70-year-old man went missing after allegedly falling into an open drain near the Vaishali Nagar underpass in Miyapur while repair works were underway on Tuesday night.
The missing man has been identified as Balaiah, a resident of Prem Nagar in Hafeezpet.
According to preliminary information, the underpass had been closed for the past few days to facilitate nala repair works. During the ongoing work, Balaiah reportedly fell into the open drain and was swept away.
Family members alleged that the incident occurred due to the contractor’s negligence, claiming that inadequate safety measures were in place at the work site. They also expressed anger over the alleged negligence of Cyberabad municipal authorities.
Local MLA Gandhi visited the accident site after learning about the incident and reviewed the ongoing rescue operation. He sought details from officials and rescue personnel and directed them to intensify the search efforts to trace the missing man.
Search and rescue operations are continuing.
Police are investigating.
