Professor of political science and international relations John Mearsheimer says Russia’s victory against Ukraine is guaranteed.
In an interview with Daniel Davis Deep Dive on Thursday run by RT, Mearsheimer stressed that no amount of Western arms and ammunition could bring victory to Kiev against Moscow due to the Russians’ “massive advantage in air power.”
The American political scientist and international relations scholar reiterated that giving Kiev the Patriot air defense systems it badly sought will not change the outcome of the conflict.
He reminded that the eastern European country remains “highly vulnerable” to Russian air strikes, pointing out that continued Russian strikes can cripple Ukraine’s economy and leave it as a “dysfunctional” state.
“The Russians are pretty much free to attack any target in Ukraine, and they don’t have to worry at all about a Patriot missile or any other kind of missile knocking down the incoming missiles or the incoming drones,” the University of Chicago professor said.
Mearsheimer said the US war on Iran would further reduce the West’s military and financial support to Kiev as “events in Iran and just the course of the war between Ukraine and Russia is creating a situation where Ukraine’s future looks highly bleak.”
“The Russians are going to win this war … [and] Ukraine is going to emerge as a dysfunctional rump state,” he highlighted.
Vladimir Zelensky, a comedian-turned-president who is presently the leader of Ukraine, has been totally dependent on the West to provide military aid and diplomatic support to fight the US-led Western countries’ war on Russia.
Zelensky is currently pushing the West for more weaponry to prepare Kiev’s armed forces to continue the conflict for a sixth year. So far, the war has cost the West hundreds of billions of dollars.
Ukraine has suffered heavy losses. The significant number of casualties leaves Kiev grappling with manpower shortages, forcing unwilling Ukrainians to fight a losing war against Russian troops.
