Israeli forces have burned and demolished homes in southern Lebanon while carrying out military aggression across the border region, even as Lebanese officials continue US-backed negotiations with Israel over a proposed framework agreement.
Lebanon’s al–Mayadeen news channel reported on Saturday that Israeli forces set fire to and demolished residential buildings in the Saf al-Hawa area of Bint Jbeil and along the road leading to the town of Ainatha.
The destruction is the latest in a series of military raids targeting communities near the Lebanese border with the northern Israeli-occupied territories.
The attacks came despite ongoing negotiations between the Lebanese government and Tel Aviv under US mediation over a proposed framework agreement designed to address security issues along the border.
Al-Mayadeen also reported that Israeli forces carried out overnight explosions in the area between the towns of Mais al-Jabal and Houla.
In the Tyre district, another explosion was reported in Majdal Zoun, accompanied by machine-gun fire near a Lebanese army position located between Majdal Zoun and Al-Mansouri.
The latest incidents follow a series of Israeli military offensives in southern Lebanon in recent days, including explosions near Barashit and Kfar Tibnit, as well as airstrikes targeting areas around Mansouri and Majdal Zoun.
Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement on June 26, mediated by the United States, which outlines a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied territories in Lebanon, starting with a pilot model in two zones that have not been publicly revealed.
The agreement does not establish a timeline for the withdrawal, tying its completion to the Lebanese army taking full security responsibility in the areas that have been evacuated and the disarmament of armed groups, specifically referring to Hezbollah.
According to official Lebanese statistics, Israeli assaults in Lebanon have killed at least 4,330 people, injured 12,236 others, and displaced more than 1 million individuals since March 2.
Israel maintains its occupation of regions in southern Lebanon, with some territories held for many years and others usurped during the onslaught of 2023-24.
