Adilabad: Thirty-four persons were booked for their alleged involvement in online Matka during a special drive conducted by the police across 10 police station areas on Tuesday.
SP Akhil Mahajan, in a statement, said simultaneous inspections were carried out by 20 special police teams at 54 suspected organisers of prohibited Matka gambling in 10 police station areas of the district. During the drive, gamblers were detected and cases were registered against 34 persons in the Mavala, Adilabad II Town, Indervelli, Boath and Echoda police station limits.
Akhil Mahajan said strict action would be initiated against those indulging in gambling. The police department has taken up an action plan to completely eradicate the social menace that destroys the future of the youth. Many people who were conducting the gambling through online platforms were identified, he stated.
The SP further said continuous surveillance was being kept on organisers, bookies, players and those who were betting online. Stern action would be initiated against the offenders with the help of technical support. Steps would be taken to examine the details of assets illegally acquired through Matka and take legal action.
He said youth were getting attracted to such crimes in the hope of earning easy money, but would eventually lose their future. He advised the public to keep a watch on their children. He requested people to create awareness among the youth and encourage them to stay away from such addictions.
