Hyderabad: A minor girl died by suicide at her residence in Moosapet, Kukatpally, on Thursday, with her family accusing a school teacher of harassing her in the name of love.
The 14-year-old girl, who was studying in Class IX at a private school, had migrated with her family from Srikakulam district and was living in Moosapet.
She was studying at a private school where the suspect, P Naresh (22), worked as a teacher and also conducted tuition classes.
Police said the teacher and the student had allegedly developed a close acquaintance. After learning about it, the girl’s parents counselled her and reportedly complained to the school management against the teacher on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the girl attended school but was sent home in the afternoon after complaining of stomach pain.
Police said she later in the evening made a video call to Naresh and allegedly told him she was about to end her life. The teacher immediately alerted one of her relatives, who rushed to the house along with other family members. They found the girl hanging. She was shifted to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, relatives and local residents accused the teacher of subjecting the minor to unwanted attention and blamed him for her death. They allegedly attacked him before the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s family, Kukatpally police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the minor’s death.
Police said all allegations, including those against the teacher, are being examined as part of the investigation.
